Choosing a retirement or senior living facility is a major decision that should not be made without carefully researching the options. You have to choose a residence that meets all your physical and social needs and provides all your expected comforts.

Critical Questions to Ask Prospective Homes
- Does a facility provide on-call around-the-clock licensed nurses?
- Does the monthly fee quoted to you include your room, personal care services, meals (including special diets and snacks), housekeeping and linen services, maintenance services, and medication management?
- Is a detailed care plan designed, reviewed, and updated for each resident?
- Does the facility provide onsite physical, occupational, and speech therapies?
- Do the administrator and director of resident care services conduct regularly scheduled meetings and communication with residents and their families?
- Does the staff know each resident by name?
- Is the staff orientation and training specifically designed for caring for living facility residents?
- Are the management and staff responsive to and helpful with your questions and needs?
- Is the facility part of a larger organization that has additional facilities and services to meet the needs of residents as their needs change?
- Is the facility licensed?
